BAH Sings Proudly at the 1920s Speakeasy

We’re thrilled and honored to have been a part of Booz Allen Hamilton’s annual corporate holiday party for the second year.   For 2014 we themed things up a bit and brought everyone back into the Roaring Twenties, even if just for an evening.  Enlisted to create the 1920s vibe, no detail was overlooked from the recreated period Deco décor to the fashionable accent attire.

Spirited guests gathered at the Marriott Marquis Hotel and Marina converted for the evening into a 1920s Speakeasy.  Guests were encouraged to come in formal attire or their favorite getup from the period. And boy oh boy did they. We saw fabulous designs, from flappers to aviators.  For those too shy or unacquainted with the period, amazing favors like fedoras and boas were on hand to up the ante.  The gals could get glammed up in the Lady’s Parlor by on site makeup artists.

Just outside, the speakeasy rocked with tunes from the times and a boudoir photo booth documented the charms of partygoers. Inside, the guests found a glitzy supper club with the glint of Gatsby in the background and the grandeur of ostrich feather centerpieces and mercury glass.  The talented team of Flowers by Annette Gomez was hands on in all aspects of the twenties decor.

Team LBE were in their flapper fabulous bests, embodying personas from the era. You can read more about their character profiles here: JVB Creative Studio.

Thoughtful Forget-Me-Nots

Plenty of tasks need to be checked off your list in the days leading up to your wedding.  Today, we wanted to share some thoughtful touches not to be forgotten and guaranteed to add to your day.

Forget Me Not

A Letter to your Fiancé:  Whether this is a letter for your fiancé to open on the morning of your wedding or on your five-year anniversary, this keepsake is a must. There are few times in your life as full of emotion as your wedding day.  Capturing these feelings in writing not only documents the love that you feel, but it also brings you into the present moment.  Some couples seal these letters and open them on a first, fifth or tenth anniversary.  Some hold on to them to be opened during a challenging time, and others open them just prior to walking doesn’t the aisle.  Either way, expressing your love for one another in writing is a priceless gift that doesn’t cost a thing.

Hash Tags:  Yes, Hash Tags!  Include #youandyourfiancewedding on your website and remind guests to use is when posting any images from the wedding.  In the comment section of your photo, placing a # in front of any word or words combined creates a searchable category within Instagram and Twitter that essentially tags your picture by whatever word you use.  This will allow for you and your guests to easily search and find images and posts relating to and documenting your wedding day.

Thank You Notes:  Hopefully you have an AMAZING team of supportive family, friends and event professionals that have supported you at different points throughout the planning process.   Don’t forget to send a personal note of gratitude—in fact, if you are giving gratuity to your professionals, a personal thank you will save you having to remember after the honeymoon and adds a thoughtful touch.

The Hanger:  How many images have you seen of a gorgeous dress hanging from a plastic hanger?  I am certain that Vera Wang would be insulted if she knew she would be hanging on plastic and published in print.  Oye!  Do a little research and find a sturdy hanger that will photograph well and become a keepsake.  Remember to make sure it is sturdy enough to hold your gown!

We hopes this helps to give you a few additional thoughtful elements to add to your wedding day.

Cheers!

The Story Starts Here

An engagement photo shoot is the first occasion in which you are able to capture your style and personality before the formal attire and veil.  It is truly the initial opportunity that we have to share your story as it starts to unfold.  The experience not only gives you the chance to build a comfortable relationship with your photographer before the big day, it also has the potential of creating storybook images that will be as timeless as the wedding photos themselves.

We suggest turning the shoot into an adventure.  Start by selecting a location that is significant to you.  It may be the stoop to your apartment, your favorite hat shop, or maybe it is where he proposed.  Think of a place that is comfortable and enjoyable so that you can actually relax and have fun.  After all, isn’t that the point?

We put together a list of some of our favorite spaces and places around town to get the juices flowing.  If you are feeling a bit more adventurous, check out Genevieve and Jonathan’s underwater shoot.

SAY CHEESE.

THE NEW CHILDREN’S MUSEUM- We are all kids at heart so why not get your kindred spirit on in front of the camera?

BRIDGES- The fact is, bridges are romantic. If you don’t believe me, just ask Miranda and Steve or Francesca and Robert.

TROLLEY TOUR- A trolley tour offers multiple settings as well as a seemingly spontaneous adventure.  One ticket allows for you to pop on and off different stops at your leisure.

THE THEATER- Okay film buffs, time to roll out the red carpet and dress to the nines for the golden age of cinema.  Check out the recently renovated Balboa Theater.

ON THE WATER- Grab your surfboard,  kayak, paddle board, sailboat, floaties or the keys to the yacht before hitting the water.

FARMER’S MARKET- Grab your canvas tote and off you go!

Now go have fun and don’t forget to speak with your photographer well in advance before planning the details.

STORYTELLING: WHAT WE DO AND WHY WE DO IT.

Your day. Your story. Your style.

We stepped behind the scenes this week at LBE for a few interviews with some of our favorite couples from over the years. It gave us a chance to catch up on all the joys of married life that come after the big “I do’s” and also to reminisce about some of our favorite stories of events past.

Telling their stories of how they met and fell in love, our couples reminded us why we do what we do at LBE.  We help each couple tell their unique story through their wedding day.  Like every good story, it’s all about setting the mood and translating the couple’s personal style.

And like the best of stories, the most wonderful moments are in the details.

Spring Loses one of its Brightest Blooms

Lillian “Lilly” Pulitzer Rousseau passed away this morning, surrounded by family in her Palm Beach, Florida home.

LP

“It all started with a juice stand.”  According to her company website, Pulitzer opened an orange juice stand adjacent to her husband’s Florida citrus groves, selling colorful cotton shirts alongside the fruit. The bright citrus hues would become a part of her signature patterns.  From there, spawned the first line of her infamous colorful shifts. Not long after, Pulitzer’s career took off when then first lady Jacqueline Kennedy, an old school chum, was photographed wearing a Lilly original.

Her happy and bright style became synonymous with resort wear and will be a bright bloom of the fashion world sorely missed.

Natalie and Curtis featured on BHLDN

Anthropologie’s BHLDN has featured Natalie and Curtis within their Real Wedding section.  The newlyweds were married at L’auberge Del Mar this past October and Natalie wore a charming tea length gown from BHLDN.  It was the perfect choice for their dual coast nuptials.

LA TAVOLA’S 2013 LINEN RELEASE SOIREE

We look forward to this time each year when one of our favorite linen companies releases their new colors, textures and patterns for all of us to play with.  Jeri of JVB Creative and I cruised up to La Tavola’s showroom in Newport Beach yesterday to experience the decadence first hand.  I can’t help but feel like a kid in a candy store when surrounded by yummy fabrics and visiting La Tavola’s boutique would equate to a scene from Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory!

The 2013 line welcomes rich textures in shades of blush, quartz, shadow, ecru, tangerine and mist.  Luxury patterns did not miss a note offering mod, exotic, playful, elegant, and extravagant fabrics.  Sheer Bliss!

Let the designing begin…
