Oscar’s Red Carpet 2011

As much as we love watching the Oscars, we love watching the red carpet even more.  This year certainly did not disappoint.  We definitely had our favorites and who doesn’t?  Mila Kunis rocked the runway in Elie Saab and I loved Michele Williams in Chanel.   You could not miss the stunning Jennifer Hudson in Versace or Gwyneth Paltrow in a sleek Calvin Klein.  There were, of course, some that we found less than favorable but we love that fashion is an individual statement and we appreciate everyone for making one!

Enough about what we love, take a look for yourself.  We can’t wait to see how these trends are transitioned from the red carpet to the aisle!

Mapping the Lay of the Land

Move over Google Maps, GPS and the old school Thomas Guide (am I dating myself here?)…  Time to get a little creative when giving directions.

Custom maps can function in many ways.  Create a map outlining where your relationship started to where you are now for your  Save the Date.  Design a map around your wedding city inclusive of all of your favorite places for guests to experience.  Hey, you could even create a treasure map for your scavenger hunt as a pre-wedding activity!  The options are abundant and completely customizable.

These are some of our favorites…

The Left Hand Calligrapher

Sugar Plum Invitations

LH Calligraphy

Swiss Cottage Designs

Daphne and Aaron: Estate Bliss

This past September, Daphne and Aaron were married at a Private Estate in Rancho Santa Fe.  We worked with a natural palette of rich berry, plum and leafy green to compliment the home.  Daphne was just finishing her degree in interior design so we all worked together to create this intimate wedding.  We took the garden aesthetic of the house and embraced it.  Guests were all shuttled to the front gate and welcomed into a private evening full of friends, family, laughter and FUN.

Love the Images?  Love Justin Lee Photography.

Congratulations Daphne and Aaron!!!

Thank you to all of the wedding professionals that worked so hard on this event!

Bride Unveiled: Sarah

Introducing our most recent bride unveiled, Sarah!  As you will gather through reading her responses, Sarah lights up any room she enters with her amazing smile and fun loving personality.  This is a couple that you want to be around and we are so excited to be part of their planning experience.

Their big day is right around the corner at Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa.

Love the Images? Love Tim Otto.

Describe your relationship in 5 words

Loving, Fun!, Courageous, Connected, Eternal

When did you get engaged? How did he pop the question?

September 18, 2010. Scott is a marine FA-18 pilot, and although he is not allowed to take me in his jet, he did take me flying in a civilian airplane!! It was the first time I had been flying with him and it was absolutely amazing! He first had me complete a fill in the blank questionnaire that led me to Montgomery airfield. I met him there and he was waiting for me at the plane. He popped the question while we were up in the air. It was perfect!!

How would you describe your personal style?

Fun! Relaxed, simple, comfortable.

The groom’s personal style?

Classic, Clean, Organized, Simplistic

How do you plan on incorporating your styles into your wedding day?

I think our wedding is very classic. Our colors are navy and ivory and we will have all ivory/blush flowers. Our decor is not over the top but will be beautiful!!! It’s very simple and clean but we’re incorporating fun with our photo booth, our DELICIOUS Sweetcheeks Banana, fudge, and peanut butter cake and a marble slab ice cream station!!

What are your favorite wedding resources?  Blogs? Magazines?

I’ve gotten several good ideas from the Knot website, but mostly use magazines for inspiration.  And of course, Liz!  The best ideas have come from her!

What is the best part about being a bride-to-be?

Knowing how amazing the big day is going to be!!!

If you had one piece of advice for other bride’s what would it be?

Look at the big picture. The small details will swallow you whole.

What are you most excited about for your wedding day?

Seeing Scott at our first look. I’m really looking forward to sharing that special moment just with him before all the craziness starts….. And my marble slab ice cream!!!!!

Thank you for sharing Sarah.  We can’t wait for the big day!!!

To Eternity and Beyond

The eternity band…  A symbol of eternal love and an unbreakable bond.

Two classic ladies from the past that have been constant inspirations for fashion and style, have also lent their engagement rings as symbols of classic and eternal love.

When Audrey Hepburn was proposed to by Mel Ferrer in 1954, she received a stunning eternity band of baguette-cut diamonds.  Mel gave Audrey two faceted wedding bands, one rose and one white gold. The rings were a perfect gift of Mel and Audrey’s iconic style – elegant and understated, refined and original.

Marilyn Monroe didn’t wear a solitaire either.  Her engagement ring and wedding band all rolled up into one  when Joe DiMaggio placed a platinum eternity band with 36 baguette-cut diamonds on her left hand.  What girl could say no to that?

We love the eternity band for its significance, simplicity and beauty.  Here are few of our favorite modern day designers and their contemporary version of the eternity band.

One. Cartier

Two. Michael Beaudry

Four. Tiffany and Co.

Five. Harry Winston
